What is jetty construction?

Jetty construction is the design-coordination and construction of a fixed structure projecting from the shore into water, used for berthing vessels, loading/unloading cargo, or providing marine access. Jetties are typically supported on piled foundations designed to resist vertical loads, berthing impact and environmental loading from waves and current.

Engineering application

A jetty's substructure — piles, pile caps and bracing — must be engineered for the combination of dead load, live load, vessel berthing/mooring loads and environmental loading specific to the water body. Foundation type is selected based on seabed conditions and water depth.
